Our Hair Donation Process - Helping Those in Need
At Belt Salon, we make the hair donation process seamless and rewarding. Here's how it works:
Step 1: Begin with a Consultation
Before the donation, one of our skilled hairstylists will consult with you to discuss your desired hair length after the donation and find the ideal haircut that suits you best.
Step 2: Preparing for Donation
Your hair will be divided into several ponytails according to the length you wish to donate, and then the hair to be donated will be cut.
Step 3: Haircut and Styling
After trimming the donated ponytails, our hairstylists will give you a stylish haircut. We'll then shampoo and style your freshly cut hair, leaving you with a fabulous new look.
Step 4: Handling the Donation
We take care of all the paperwork and shipping at no additional cost to you. Your donation ponytail will be sent to the chosen charity.
Step 5: Making a Difference
By donating your hair, you directly contribute to providing wigs to those in need, bringing joy and confidence to cancer patients and children facing hair loss.
Hair Donation Requirements
If you're considering donating your hair, it's essential to meet the following requirements:
For Wigs For Kids Charity:
Hair should be a minimum of 12 inches for proper donation length, but longer ponytails (14+ inches) have a more significant impact on children in need.
Ensure hair is clean and fully dry when packaged for donation.
Hair should not be permed, color-treated, or highlighted. Temporary coloring or washable highlights are acceptable but must be thoroughly washed out before cutting.
Section your hair into at least four ponytails (six for a more generous donation) to maximize the length available for use.
Secure each ponytail or braid tightly with rubber bands 2-3 inches apart to prevent loose hair during shipping.
For Locks of Love Charity:
Hair must be a minimum of 10 inches long, measured tip to tip, for use in their hairpieces.
Colored or permed hair is acceptable; if you're unsure, the manufacturer will determine the viability of the donation.
Hair cut years ago is usable if stored in a ponytail or braid.
Hair must be bundled in ponytails or braids; hair swept off the floor or shaved without bundling cannot be used.
Dreadlocks are not accepted, as blending hair donations together requires combed hair.
